Louisville residents encouraged to observe voluntary water restrictions, keep sprinklers offSpring has sprung, but it already feels like summer! With this unusually hot weather, the City has gotten a lot of questions about water restrictions. There are currently no mandatory water restrictions in Louisville, but residents are encouraged to observe voluntary water restrictions. You may be inclined to start sprinkler systems early, but we encourage you to hold off — not irrigating now will help preserve Louisville's water supply if dry conditions continue. Wait to water lawns- Leaving automated sprinkler systems off longer will save water.
- Plan on programming your sprinkler system to start later in the season (mid-to-late May).
- Hand-water trees and plants as needed.
Don't waste water- Don't waste water by letting it spray on concrete and asphalt.
- Promptly repair leaking sprinkler systems.
- Use buckets or a hose nozzle with a shut-off valve if washing your car.
Ways to make your yards more waterwiseThe City, in partnership with Resource Central, offers programs to help residents use water more efficiently and create beautiful, low-water landscapes. Available resources include: Northern Water also has a variety of valuable landscape resources with a wealth of information. Take advantage of these programs to reduce water use, save money, and choose plants and grasses that are well-adapted to Colorado's climate. New lawnsDue to the amount of water needed, if you are considering establishing a new lawn this year, we strongly recommend that you hold off. We also recommend that you opt for drought-tolerant landscaping over a traditional lawn! City reusing water for irrigation at key facilitiesAfter being treated, a portion of Louisville's wastewater is pumped to the Louisville Sports Complex, Miner’s Field, Coal Creek Golf Course, and Community Park and used for irrigation. Stay tuned for updatesThe City is actively monitoring conditions, snowpack, and water supply projections, and will have more information regarding water allocations in April. This information will help the City determine whether additional/mandatory water restrictions may be necessary. We'll provide an update as soon as available. Conserve water now by waiting to turn on sprinkler systems! |
