Plugged in and serving up flavor: Marco’s Hot Dogs and Tacos goes generator-free

Two men stand in front of a food truck with the truck

For José Luís Arce and Arturo Silva, owners of Longmont-based Marco's Hot Dogs and Tacos, switching from a gasoline generator to a battery-powered system has transformed how they operate their food truck. They made the change last year after working with PACE Advisor Norma King, who connected them with Food Truck Electrification and Efficiency Grantsoffered by a partnership between PACE and the Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC). "Our team struggled with the old generator all the time. We had to remember to get gas, move the generator around, get it working," says Arce. "Our battery system is so much easier, you just show up, turn it on, and go."

Their all-electric setup powers five refrigerators, a steamer, and a water heater for up to two or three days on a single charge. For multi-day events, their refrigerators stay running even when the truck is parked and off. "I don't have to worry about inventory spoiling anymore," Arce explains. "That's a huge relief." They've also noticed how much quieter their truck is at events. "People ask if we even need to plug in. The quiet makes a big difference."

Marco's is planning to electrify two additional trailers this year and encourages other food truck owners to explore the option. "Ask all your questions up front so you understand the benefits. No gas, no noise — everything becomes easier," Silva advises, "and if anyone wants to see how it works, they can come talk to us. We're happy to share our experience."

About the Food Truck Electrification and Efficiency Grants

PACE's food truck grants are made possible by combining two awesome programs. First, the Engines Off program from RAQC helps food truck owners replace noisy, high-polluting generators with clean, efficient battery-powered systems. The program covers 80% of the battery power station and the electric infrastructure costs, up to $20,000. PACE advisors provide hands-on support throughout the process.

Businesses can also take advantage of the PACE Restaurant Equipment Grant which covers 70% of the costs of replacing aging equipment with new, energy-efficient models, up to $10,000). To learn more about Engines Off or the Restaurant Equipment Grant, visit the PACE website or connect with a PACE advisor at info@pacepartners.com.

PACE Landscaping Grant is back – applications open today!

Our popular Electric Landscaping Equipment Grant returns for its fourth year and is now awarded through a simple lottery process:

  • Apply online now through April 14
  • Qualified applicants will be entered into a random lottery
  • Beginning April 27, businesses will be notified of their status and next steps

For 2026, grants cover 50% of the cost of electric landscaping equipment (before tax), up to $5,000. Eligible applicants include professional landscaping businesses in Boulder County that meet the program criteria on our website.

Applicants selected by the lottery can use their grant to purchase eligible equipment like blowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and mowers from AGZA Field Tested and Certified manufactures. PACE advisors and our retail partners will help guide you through the process to ensure your selections qualify.
