Building Overdose Preparedness in Colorado’s Construction Workforce |
The Centers for Health, Work & Environment recently partnered with the Colorado Contractors Association (CCA) Emerging Leaders program to deliver training on overdose response and naloxone administration in the workplace as part of the Colorado Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative ®. Grounded in the latest Colorado data from the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, the session highlighted the disproportionate impact of overdose within the construction industry and reinforced that overdose preparedness is a critical component of workplace safety.
Participants learned how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, administer naloxone, activate emergency response systems, and integrate overdose preparedness into broader recovery-ready workplace strategies. By equipping emerging leaders in infrastructure with life-saving skills and stigma-reducing knowledge, this partnership advances Total Worker Health® principles and strengthens workforce well-being across Colorado. |

According to the American Addiction Centers, 17% of food service workers have been diagnosed with a substance abuse disorder. Associated factors include fast-paced, high-stress environments, work culture, and stigma (Kaliszewski, 2024). The Colorado Recovery Workplace Initiative is committed to working with employers and their teams to open the conversation about substance misuse and redefine workplace culture as a safe and connected community.
We look forward to hosting a booth at the Colorado Restaurant and Bar Show on April 7th. Register today for your spot, and we’ll see you there! |

April 20, 2026 11:00AM –12:00PM MT Zoom (Register for the link)
As cannabis laws, workplace safety, and employee wellbeing continue to evolve, employers are seeking trustworthy, clear, practical guidance. High-potency cannabis products, expanding public health research, and shifting cultural norms all pose new questions for organizations across the nation.
This webinar brings together Health Links® and the Tea on THC campaign, Colorado’s leading public health initiative focused on cannabis education, to help employers understand what’s changing, what risks are emerging, and what proactive steps workplaces can take. National and local experts will discuss high-potency cannabis, its impact on population health, and how cannabis use trends intersect with worker wellbeing in sectors like construction and restaurant/hospitality. |
