Stage 1 fire restrictions reinstated for Louisville, eastern Boulder County

The Boulder County Sheriff's Office has announced that Stage 1 fire restrictions have been enacted for the unincorporated areas of eastern Boulder County, effective at noon on Tuesday, June 30. Because Louisville City Council members voted in March to align Louisville's fire restrictions with those in the unincorporated areas adjacent to the City, the Stage 1 fire restrictions automatically take effect within Louisville as well.

Under Stage 1 fire restrictions, the following activities are prohibited:

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using an open fire, campfire, or stove fire on public lands, including charcoal barbecues and grills;
  • Fireworks sales, use, and possession, including permissible fireworks;
  • Shooting or discharge of firearms for recreational purposes on public lands except for hunting with a valid and current hunting license on public lands;
  • Smoking, except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials;
  • Operating a chainsaw or other gas-powered equipment without a USDA or SAE-approved spark arrester properly installed and in effective working order, a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher kept with the operator and one round point shovel with an overall length of at least 35 inches readily available for use;
  • Welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame except in cleared areas of at least 10 feet in diameter and in possession of a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher; and
  • Using an explosive or doing any kind of blasting work, including but not limited to fuses, blasting caps, fireworks, rockets, exploding targets, tracers, and incendiary ammunition, except on private property.

This decision follows continued hot, dry weather, drought conditions, and elevated fire danger identified through the National Weather Service and the National Fire Danger Rating System. In addition, firefighting resources are limited due to the number of active wildfires being fought in multiple locations around Colorado.

Officials urge residents and visitors to use extreme caution with any activity that could spark a wildfire.

Personal fireworks are prohibited; come see our fireworks show instead

As a reminder, all fireworks — including sparklers and fireworks on the ground — are prohibited within Louisville city limits. By choosing not to use personal fireworks, you prevent the risk of fire in our community and ensure this holiday is enjoyable for all of our neighbors and pets.

On that note, we’re excited to share that our Fourth of July Fireworks Show is moving forward this year, thanks to a close partnership with the Louisville Fire Protection District and a comprehensive set of safety measures designed to protect our community.

We will continue to closely monitor conditions, and the fireworks show may be cancelled if there are safety concerns. Our fire partners will be on‑site throughout the event, overseeing all fire‑prevention protocols, monitoring conditions, and ensuring the show is conducted with the highest level of professional oversight. Stay tuned to LouisvilleCO.gov, City email bulletins, and the City's social media channels for any updates about the Fourth of July Fireworks Show.
