Economic Injury Disaster Loans Available for Those Affected by Droughts
US SBA logo

Low-interest federal disaster loans are now available through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to help small businesses and private nonprofit organizations recover from economic losses caused by ongoing drought conditions in Colorado. Eligible entities—including small businesses, agricultural cooperatives, nurseries, and faith-based nonprofits—can apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) of up to $2 million to cover working capital needs such as payroll, fixed debts, and accounts payable, even if no physical damage occurred.

Interest rates are as low as 4% for small businesses and 3.625% for nonprofits, with terms up to 30 years; payments are deferred for 12 months after the first disbursement. Deadlines vary by declaration, with some applications due as early as April 27 and others by December 7, 2026.

The SBDC provides free technical assistance to businesses interested in applying for an economic injury loan. Learn more and request your no-cost advising appointment here.
