Boulder County’s annual irrigation water delivery to 7th Generation Farm at Harney-Lastoka Open Space is underway. A water pump is transferring water from Hecla Lake to the farm. As a result, nearby community members may hear noise from the equipment while operations are in progress. To minimize disruption, pump hours are limited to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m..
A Few Important Things to Know:
Lake Levels: Once the water transfer is complete, Hecla Lake will likely be empty again because of current water restrictions. The City is not adding water to the lake. Boulder County is using Hecla Lake as part of the irrigation delivery system, allowing water to pass through on its way to the farm for agricultural use. During this process, the lake’s water level may rise, fall, or remain unchanged.
No Fishing: Please remember that Hecla Lake is not stocked with fish, and fishing remains strictly prohibited.
Drinking Water: These irrigation deliveries do not affect the City’s treated drinking water supply for residents, businesses, or municipal facilities.
Thank you for your patience while this temporary work is completed. We appreciate the community’s interest in Hecla Lake and will continue to share updates as conditions change.
World Ranger Day is July 31!
Every year on July 31, people around the world recognize World Ranger Day. It is a time to celebrate the important work they do to protect the land, wildlife, and heritage that connect our communities. As World Ranger Day marks its 20th year, we honor the courage and dedication of rangers working on the front lines in a rapidly changing world.
Here in Louisville, we are fortunate to have two dedicated Ranger Naturalists: Senior Ranger Naturalist White-Patarino and Ranger Naturalist Bailey. Every day, they go above and beyond to educate our community, protect local natural resources, and help people build meaningful connections with the natural world.
